Global money app that finally became a UK bank.

Our take
The default comparison set for a reason. Treat the UK bank product and the e-money wallet as different legal objects, then Revolut wins most travel and multi-currency briefs. It is not the quietest home for a salary if you want a full-licence high-street feel — that is still Starling or Monzo in the UK.
Revolut started as a prepaid FX card in 2015 and spent a decade becoming a specialised bank in the EEA and, later, a UK bank for eligible customers. The consumer app still sells the original promise: hold many currencies, spend on Visa, move money cheaper than a high-street bank. Around that sit brokerage, crypto, credit, and business accounts — each with its own entity. This register scores the consumer money app, not every sleeve.
Revolut lists UK bank (eligible customers) under PRA / FCA in United Kingdom. On safeguarding we currently write: FSCS up to £85,000 on UK bank balances; EMI safeguarding on e-money wallets. Holder / issuer line: Revolut Bank UAB / Revolut Ltd (product-dependent). An AML programme is claimed. Local bank details (IBAN / sort code / equivalent) are part of the pitch. We list 10 live markets on the product. As we score the sticker: monthly Free · Plus/Premium/Metal/Ultra paid; FX Fair-usage weekday mid-market; weekend markup on Standard; ATM Fair-usage free, then 2%; interest Paid on Savings / Flexible Cash Funds (entity-dependent). This desk would open it for: People who live in more than one currency and want one app for spend, FX, and extras.
What it does well: Best-in-class FX for travellers on paid plans; Product depth: bank, broker, crypto, cards, kids; UK bank licence closes the old EMI objection for eligible users. What to watch: Support quality does not match the feature list; Weekend FX and fair-usage ATM rules catch Standard users; Crypto and stock sleeves are not the bank. Desk score 8.6 / 10 (safety 8.2, fees 8.4, features 9.4, app 9.2). Last verified 2026-08-01. Headquartered in London, United Kingdom; founded 2015. None of this is advice — it is a file so you can read the entity before the card colour.
Best for: People who live in more than one currency and want one app for spend, FX, and extras.

Product
Crypto inside a neobank app is a product, not a licence. Treat it as an exchange sleeve.

Fees
The mid-market pitch is plan-gated. Standard retail FX at weekends is the gotcha we keep scoring.

Revolut holds a banking-style licence (PRA / FCA). Still read the legal entity on the statement, not the app icon.

We list 10 market desks on the desk. Residency and onboarding rules still sit with Revolut.

Works in India for travel. Do not treat it as a local salary bank.

UK bank details finally made salary work. Weekend markup on Standard is the gotcha.

FX on Premium is still the reason I keep it. Support is slow; the app is not.

The licence changed. The product graph did not get simpler. Check the entity on the statement.

Safety 25, fees 20, features 15, app 15, global 15, support 10. Why those weights, and what a 9.0 actually means.

The job is spend USDT at a terminal. The risk is that the balance is not a deposit. A comparison that ignores the BIN sponsor is incomplete.

Safeguarding is not FSCS. Partner banks are not the app brand. Here is the split that actually decides whether your salary is protected.
