Desk verdict

Knab is no longer Knab N.V. S&P: on 29 November 2025 the merger completed and Knab became BAWAG AG’s passported branch in the Netherlands. Eligible deposits sit under Austrian ESA up to €100,000, not the Dutch DGS. bunq is still a Dutch bank with Dutch DGS. This is an Austrian bank in Dutch kit. A Dutch IBAN here is a BAWAG IBAN. Do not double-count the cap with other BAWAG pots.

Launched 2012 as Aegon’s answer to the crisis. ASR inherited it. BAWAG bought the shares in November 2024 and folded the licence in 2025. Amsterdam shop-front, Vienna scheme. Directories still say Aegon Bank and Dutch DGS. This desk writes the branch and the ESA footnote.
