Nigerian super-app: wallet, rides, and a card in one icon.

Our take
Score OPay as a money super-app. Do not put it in the same FDIC/FSCS-style column as Kuda without labelling the licence.
OPay is an Opera-originated Super App that became a Nigerian payments giant. Transfers, bills, and cards sit on an MMO/PSP stack. That is a different recovery story from a deposit-taking bank.
OPay lists MMO / PSP (confirm current class) under Central Bank of Nigeria in Nigeria. On safeguarding we currently write: Wallet / MMO rules — not automatically NDIC bank deposits. An AML programme is claimed. There is no IBAN-class local rail on the flags we store. We list 1 live markets on the product. As we score the sticker: monthly Free wallet; FX Card FX when a dollar card is issued; ATM Agent and ATM cash-out fees apply. This desk would open it for: Nigerian consumers who already live in a super-app, not a current account.
What it does well: Distribution via agents; Everyday payments; Scale. What to watch: Not a full commercial bank by default; Licence literacy required; Dollar-card scarcity. Desk score 6.8 / 10 (safety 6.4, fees 8.4, features 8.0, app 8.0). Last verified 2026-08-01. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria; founded 2018. None of this is advice — it is a file so you can read the entity before the card colour.
Best for: Nigerian consumers who already live in a super-app, not a current account.
Wallet / MMO rules — not automatically NDIC bank deposits
No dated notes yet. When the licence, fees, or status moves, it lands here.
OPay is not a licensed deposit-taker in the classic sense. Treat the balance as a fintech ledger until you confirm the holder.
Wallet / MMO rules — not automatically NDIC bank deposits
We list 1 market desk on the desk. Residency and onboarding rules still sit with OPay.
